'Never Chance Your Luck against the Sea'
|

Thursday 8th May sees Cromer’s ‘Folk on the Pier’ 10th anniversary
festival launching a new 2CD set entitled ‘Never Chance Your Luck
Against the Sea’ in aid of the Cromer Lifeboat Crew Fund.
As with ‘Someone Was Calling’ a similar project produced in 2004 , this
limited edition double set will feature over 30 contributions spread over two
and a half hours from some of the biggest names in folk music including Fairport
Convention, Ralph McTell, Show of Hands, Battlefield Band, Shooglenifty and John
Tams as well as a number of local acts. The generously produced double set will
retail at £15.
The striking cover of the CD booklet features an ‘Excalibur’ style photo of
an acoustic guitar being rescued from the sea beyond and adjacent to the Cromer
Pier boathouse. The picture was taken in March by members of the inshore
lifeboat crew. ‘Never Chance Your Luck
Against the Sea’ the title of the set has
been gleaned from a song by John Tams, one of the UK’s top folk artists who is
also an actor, known for his part as Rifleman Daniel Hagman in the TV series
‘Sharpe’. He also co-wrote the music for the popular TV series.
